Laura Linney's portrayal of vulnerable, yet strong characters has made her one of today's greatest American actors. Her father was a celebrated playwright. However, she was raised as an only child by her single-mother, a nurse. Through the summer months, while with her dad, Linney developed a passion for theater. Linney eventually pursued acting initially at Brown University then at Juilliard School. Her Broadway career after her graduation after which she made her debut on television the following year. Her appearances have been in a variety of film, TV and stage shows since. Her achievements have been numerous throughout her career including four Primetime Emmy Awards and two Golden Globe Awards. However, in spite of all the awards she has received, theatre has remained her primary passion and she is still appearing on stage and screen.
