Jennifer Garner, born April 17, 1972, in Houston, Texas, was raised within Charleston West Virginia. William John Garner is her father. He worked as chemical engineer for Union Carbide. The mother of her Patricia Ann taught at a local college. Wanting to follow in her father's footsteps and earn an education in chemical engineering. In order to pursue her dream of acting, she decided to move to New York and try her acting career in the world of Hollywood. She worked as a chef in the restaurant in New York, and appeared in Broadway productions. In the TV series "Felicity," she had one brief appearance. (It was on this show where she got to know her husband Scott Foley. Garner got her breakthrough in the action thriller "Alias." She had her first leading role came in the critically acclaimed romantic comedy "13 Going to 30." Garner played a teenager trapped inside a 30-year old body. Garner picked Gary Winick, who directed the movie. They worked together in pursuing other projects even after his death. Garner became an ambassador of Save the Children U.S.A. in 2009. It includes the promotion of the importance of nutrition, literacy and early education. Garner is a board member on the organization's board since 2014, has been an advocate for early learning. In her role as an ambassador, Garner visits frequently with families that are part of Early Steps to School Success the program which trains parents on how to help youngsters in their learning.
